Peter Kay’s Misheard Lyrics Routine Will Keep You Laughing Right Till The End

Let me take you back to one of the funniest things I’ve ever done on stage — my “Tour That Didn’t Tour” from 2010 and 2011. It ended up breaking records, which still blows my mind. But the bit fans loved the most? My sketch about misheard song lyrics. People still tell me, “That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen!”

The whole idea came from something we’ve all done — singing along to a song thinking we know the words, only to find out later we were completely wrong. You know what I mean! You’re at a karaoke night, feeling confident, then the real lyrics pop up and you just stand there like, “Wait a minute… have I been singing that wrong my whole life?”

I mean, take Take That for example — everyone thought they were singing “wash your back” instead of “want you back” in Back for Good. Can you imagine a group of grown men singing about scrubbing each other’s backs? Makes you laugh just thinking about it.

Then there’s Sister Sledge in We Are Family — someone swore they were singing “staple the vicar” instead of “standing beside me.” I don’t even know what that would look like, but it sounds like a church service gone horribly wrong.

Oh! And one of my absolute favourites — Michael Jackson in You Are Not Alone. Someone genuinely thought he was singing “your burgers are the best.” Honestly, I love a good burger too, but I’m pretty sure that’s not what he meant!

It’s all just harmless fun, but it really hits home how often we mess up lyrics and just roll with it. And when you finally find out the real words — it’s like a lightbulb moment mixed with total embarrassment and uncontrollable laughter.
