In 2022, Selena Gomez revealed that she could not have biological children due to medical issues. However, the actress and singer has now announced that she can hardly wait to become a mother.

With her fiancé Benny Blanco, 37, Selena Gomez, 32, seems to be finding new joy in life. Speaking about the music producer, whom she has been dating since July 2023, the musician told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2024: “I have never felt so secure in a relationship, and I see a future with this person.” Now, the couple is apparently planning to start a family together.

Selena Gomez Feels Safe Around Children

In a joint interview on the Jay Shetty Podcast, Gomez made it abundantly clear how much she looks forward to becoming a mother. “Of course, I don’t know what will happen, but I love kids. […] I love making [kids] laugh; they are just so sweet,” the former Disney star said before adding, “I am so excited for the day that happens.”

Benny Blanco, who proposed to Gomez at the end of 2024, confirmed that his partner truly thrives in the presence of children. The 32-year-old is usually rather “shy,” he explained, but “whenever there are kids around, […] she immediately goes to [them] and talks to them for hours.” He suspects this is linked to her past as a child star. “I feel like you still believe it’s your duty to connect with young kids.”

Actress Considers Adoption or Surrogacy

Back in September 2022, Selena Gomez shared in an interview with Vanity Fair that she would not be able to have biological children: “Unfortunately, I cannot carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put both my life and the baby’s life at risk.” The actress was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020. Due to the medications she takes for it, complications in a potential pregnancy cannot be ruled out.

However, Gomez is considering “surrogacy or adoption.” “I am very grateful for the other options available to people who desperately want to become mothers. I am one of those people. I’m curious to see what this journey will look like, but it will be a little different. In the end, though, I don’t care. It will be mine. It will be my baby,” said the Only Murders in the Building star two and a half years ago.
